The NY Post has a story today about the $12 cup of Ethiopian Nekisse imported through Ninety Plus, roasted by Cafe Grumpy. It’s similar to the $13 cup article in CNN, though clearly more skeptical (and a little dismissive). As Colleen says, “you wouldn’t walk into a wine shop and complain about a $12 glass”. [...]

Also featured in yesterday’s New York Times article are Blue Bottle, Ecco Caffe, Four Barrel, Barefoot, and Sight Glass. Although for a more detailed perspective on the state of San [...]

Similarly, desirable roast profiles would be easier to seek out and repeat. Researchers at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign have created a way to do just that using pigments that change color [...]

The Washington Post got in depth today with Counter Culture’s new training center in Washington, DC. “Counter Culture staffers describe their mission in part as an effort to reshape the way Americans think about coffee. Ritual Roasters in San Francisco, California got some nice slide show action when News Day stopped by to watch them cup samples for the Panama Esmeralda auction that just occurred. Of course, the photo shoot happened before the auction. So naturally I had to go back to the auction results to double check whether or [...]

The El Salvador COE auction was today, and what’s notable is not who won lots of green in this years auction, but who didn’t. Conspicuously absent from the list are roasters that traditionally scoop up the best of the best every year. Nevertheless this year’s 1st place lot price has eclipsed last year’s high ($20.10), [...]
