NYC’s 59th Street Subway Coffee Cup Mosaics
Posted on January 8, 2012 by Mike

Why is this subway station decorated with mosaics of coffee cups? I’m not sure, New York’s first coffee roaster was located on Pearl Street, not 59th. But NYC has a long history of mosaics in the subway. There’s a flickr group devoted to it, and even a Wikipedia page. The best resource I’ve found so far is the art guide on NYC Subway.org, they have a collection of 239 different pieces of art. Excluding the illegal art, of course.
