Tim Wendelboe has created a curated list of cafes around the world that he recommends. If you do a lot of traveling, I recommend bookmarking this map.

There’s a huge problem with this: none of this indicates how many places he’s tried and where.

It’s one thing to be a great roaster or barista. It’s another to develop a global footprint broad enough where sampling different cafes make sense.

Otherwise, this set of recommendations becomes no more valuable than Oprah’s list of favorite Japanese sakes.

Except that Oprah isn’t in the Sake business. I think your analogy would be more apt if you said Tim’s list was no more valuable than Oprah’s list of favorite talk shows. In which case, it would have value to many. Either way, the list is simply a collection of places that Tim recommends based on his own experiences. He tends to travel a lot (he’s been in several US states this week alone), and his opinion is worth quite a bit to many.
