El Salvador COE 2009 Auction Results

The El Salvador COE auction was today, and what’s notable is not who won lots of green in this years auction, but who didn’t. Conspicuously absent from the list are roasters that traditionally scoop up the best of the best every year.

Nevertheless this year’s 1st place lot price has eclipsed last year’s high ($20.10), and all participants earned above a “Fair Trade” price.

Of course there were some wonderful people involved in purchasing the top lots this year, as evidenced by this;

Luckily “mieh1” will be joining us from her home in Oslo, Norway for our bi-annual Barista Bash, AKA Spring Fling 2009 at Spuyten Duyvil.  We can ask her then about the Rafael Duch Martinez La Nueva bourbon that Kaffa has just picked up.

UPDATE: In a related twist, several buying groups have gotten together on lot #13 from Alfredo Antonio Mena Lagos – Villa España, to support the speedy recovery of Ricardo Espitia (who presumably has been injured in some way).  Anyone care to shed some light on this El Sal philanthropic sub-plot?

Who is Ricardo Espitia?

MORE UPDATES!

Now we know who Ricardo is!

Tragic! Congrats to those involved in said philanthropic venture for using notably benevolent CoE to further support healthy causes worldwide!
