Brodsky got me High

Pre Ninety Plus

Roughly seven hours after cupping Beloyas, Arichas, and Geishas with Joseph Brodsky and co, it occurred to me (finally) that not all caffeine is created equally. Much like the way different forms of alcohol have different effects on the body, so too does caffeine. The coffees that we cupped at Gimme yesterday left me feeling much different that I normally do, in a positive way. I realize of course, that the difference may in fact be due to various other alkaloids that are specific to these beans, or a different number of methyl groups present, but the results were the same. I felt better post-cupping than I think I ever have. I also realize of course, that the collection of outstanding people present at the cupping likely had something to do with this as well.  But surely different beans have different effects physiologically?

I was trying to explain this to someone the other day… certain coffees just mess me up while others I could drink all day. If I have a Kenya after 8pm I’m in for some weird dreams! Maybe it’s psychological…

interesting. i usually end up feeling a pleasant caffeine buzz after cupping, no matter what the coffees are that are on the table. very different from actually drinking the coffee, i end up with more of a head buzz, with no ‘body load’ (if that makes any sense at all).
