Boston, Mass

Posted on September 4, 2007 by

I’ve been spending a bit of time in Boston recently and finally had an opportunity to check out Simon’s Coffee in Cambridge, Mass. Located on a fairly impersonal stretch of busy road, it felt rather sleepy and cozy once entering. George Howell roasts the coffee they use, but the best part about the shop is the bulletin board displaying all the coffees they’ve featured in the past. If anyone has a suggestion for other notable shops in the greater Boston area, I’d love to hear about them.

Sorry about the picture quality, i didn’t have a real camera with me.

Not an espresso haunt, but Hi-Rise Bakery in Cambridge should be well worth your visit.

I have a pair of really good friends who work at Diesel in Davis Square. They use Intelly there, and the space is pretty charming. Also, there’s good food and a photobooth.

Man, I love Boston. So much.

    Davis square eh?

Maybe you and I should get together and discuss the merits of Boston. Among other things, that is.

Simon’s has pretty much been my go-to as far as espresso. Diesel Cafe has a good vibe. If you’re up for a trip, Atomic Cafe out on the North Shore is a good spot. I miss you guys in NYC!

Are you living near Simon’s now Erwin? I’m really hoping there’s something better closer to Brookline where I visit. Believe it or not i had a pretty good shot from some place on Newbury St. I even saw the barista trying to pour latte art…not 100% successfully but still…

    NYC misses you.

All the same, ask for Judson if you find yourself in that area. They use Terroir (Daterra Northern, I think) and Judson is a serious barista who can get you some art up top, too. They have a nice selection of French wines and homemade jams as well. Just an all around fun place. The communal table is a nice touch.

    I swear I don’t own stock in Hi-Rise Bakery.

thanks Aaron, i’ll definitely check it out. I don’t drink milk drinks either but its always nice to know the barista can pour art.

Hey, I know that place! Too narrow but the neighborhood is full of great people. Of the two guys behind bar, I know Denez (the dark haired one) who is now lurking Brooklyn near Gimme.

I think if all goes well(not certain but in discussions), there are possibly two new shops opening in the next 4-6 months that will be worth visiting.

I’m on Simon’s side of the river but I’m actually closer to Central and Inman. Curious as to which place you’re talking about on Newbury (Espresso Royale?). Wish I had something for you in Brookline but I’ve been hoping as well.

True Grounds in Ball Square, Somerville, serves Terroir. Clear Conscience in Central Square, Cambridge, serves all organic.
